What Happened To UNT JAZZ STUDIES?

Back in the 1970's and 80's UNT was called: NORTH TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY and You had John Haynie, Trumpet Professor Guru and a subsequent TON of great players, students coming out of of NTSU.
Although the JAZZ STUDIES PROGRAM declined, it was slow. Did ok under Steve Weist, but WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH JOHN MURPHY???
He is a HACK non-accomplished musician that simply is a monkey trained to regurgitate theories and pedagogy and then...HE BECOMES DIVISION CHAIR of the Jazz Studies at UNT?

Supposedly UNT was, is the best music school in the u.s.a., but now it surely must be only riding on those yesteryear fumes of success.
Shouldn't the DIVISION CHAIR, of which JOHN MURPHY holds, at least be a notable musician too?
